Overview

The spiritual practices (or disciplines) are the “trellis” upon which the fruit of our spiritual life can grow. They are the daily connection to the love and life of Jesus that every believer longs for. Our hope is to introduce students to six of the practices so they can begin to experience the love of Jesus in powerful and personal ways. Each week introduces a new one, and gives practical tips on how to start on this life changing journey. The practices we cover are: Study, Silence & Solitude, Prayer, Confession, Sabbath, and Generosity.

Weekly Topics

WEEK 1: PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT
Our first week is an introduction to the Spiritual Practices. Why are they important? Did Jesus use them? What do they accomplish? We focus on the relational element of them all, and how they connect us to Jesus.

WEEK 2: READ THE BIBLE LIKE JESUS
We cover the Spiritual Practice of reading the Bible. We will offer some very practical ways to read the Bible and begin the life long journey of drawing closer to Jesus through scripture.

WEEK 3: LIVING ABOVE THE NOISE
In a world full of distractions, the practice of Silence and Solitude is more important than ever. How can teens in the 21st century practice this? How will it help them?

WEEK 4: PRAY FIRST, NOT LAST
Prayer is one of the most essential practices and everyone can do it. The catch is, we don’t! How can we cultivate a life of going to God first in prayer, rather than treating it as a last ditch option?

WEEK 5: CONFESSION LEADS TO HEALING
The practice of Confession connects us to each other and to Jesus. It frees us from living in fear or shame, trying to do life on our own.

WEEK 6: GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK
Is the practice of Sabbath still relevant today? We will show how important Sabbath is, especially with how busy we all are, and how easy it is to practice it. We will show how it connects us to the life of Jesus that he wants for us.

WEEK 7: BETTER TO GIVE
The practice of Generosity frees us from the power of green and materialism and invites us to enjoy the power of sacrifice. Jesus said it is better to give than to receive, and we will explore how we can experience that freedom in our lives!
